Christian Martyrs
Definitions:
Martyrs: A person who is killed because of their Religion or Beliefs.
Persecution: Hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs; oppression.
Martyrdom: The death or suffering of a martyr
The early Christians were executed by a manner of different practices. Besides being put to death, the Christians were made to serve as objects of amusement; they
torn to death by dogs and different animals; others were crucified, others set on fire to serve to illuminate the night when daylight failed.
In Roman society, Cesar was considered a living god to all Romans. The early Christians refused to bow down before him and acknowledge him as a god as they had their
own God, Jesus. It is believed that the Roman people initiated the persecution of the Christians in the early Roman Empire because they were very superstitious. Roman
religion was based largely on sacrifices and their beliefs in many different Gods.They believed that participation in activities, such as sacrificing, would bring good luck and
favor to themselves from the gods. Because the Christians refused to worship or sacrifice, they were persecuted by the Roman people. The Christians openly defied the Roman gods; Christians became the ultimate religion that was always the victim.
