St Paul:
Life as Saul
Saul of Tarsus grew up in a strict Jewish family in a town in Tarsus. After studding in Jerusalem, Saul became paired with religious authorities and they set out to find anyone closely linked with Christianity and Jesus. Saul watched many Christian leaders stoned to death. One day, Saul was walking on the road
to Damascus and he saw a blinding light and he heard a voice that said "Saul, Why do you persecute me," The voice goes on to add "I am Jesus, who you are persecuting. Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you have to do". Saul was taken into the city where he became blind for four days and did not eat or drink anything. Meanwhile, Jesus told one of his Disciples to find Saul, for he was the chosen man to deliver the Gospel to the Gentiles. Saul regained his strength and sight. Later on Saul became baptized by the Christians. Saul then changed his name to Paul. Paul then went on to preach the Christian Faith.
Journeys
Paul visited many places on his three journeys. Some included Perga, Derbe and Lystra. Paul wrote to many different churches and to different people for various reasons. He wrote to churches to correct them on subjects that they had strayed on, others to commend them for their good faith and efforts, to introduce himself to a church that he was going to visit and to thank others for their help. Some of the communities that Paul wrote to were the Romans,
Galatians, Thessalonian Churches and the Colossians.
Opinions
The Council of Jerusalem was formed when some men came down from Judea and started teaching people that unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved. This is the beginning of the Council. The council dealt with problems regarding circumcision and the laws of Moses. At the meeting Peter, James and John accepted Paul’s mission to the Gentiles.
Death
St Paul was beheaded with a roman sword in Rome because he did not accept and believe in the Roman Gods in the reign of Nero. It is estimated that he died sometime between May and June of 68 A.D.

Symbol:
I feel that this symbol best represents St. Paul as it is able to
tell us a brief amount of information just by looking at it. The use of a book in the opening represents Paul and his teachings. The three people protruding from the book may suggest the many different communities that Paul has helped and had a major effect upon. The sun also suggests happiness. |
